Run for Roses a winner for partygoers
Run for the Roses was a safe bet for 250 people who attended the annual black-tie event held by the Akron General Medical Center Women’s Board.
The benefit, held Saturday at Fairlawn Country Club, included an elegant dinner, live and silent auctions and an atmosphere reminiscent of the former Ascot Park horse racing track in Cuyahoga Falls.
“We enjoy the silent auction and we’ve won some of the items over the years,” said David Glass.
His wife Cindy said it was the couple’s fourth year attending the gala.
Some of the live auction items were an authentic juke box, diamond pendant and a Cayman Islands vacation package.
Deb Faber Cailor was the event chairwoman and delivered welcoming remarks. The room was filled with tables adorned with rose centerpieces, setting an elegant tone for the affair.
Akron General Chief Executive Vincent McCorkle and Women’s Board President Laurie Fenton also addressed the supporters.
Serving on the gala committee were Jo Bethea, Barb Lubinski, Monica Talmage, Becky Calaway, Mirna Debs, Rima Muakkassa, Elaine Sisler, Carol Yassine and Alice Dickey.
“Whatever their theme is, I always enjoy it,” said partygoer Tim Sisler.
Proceeds from the evening will go toward projects and programs at Akron General Medical Center.
Spotted in the crowd were Murphy and Patty Montler, Lois and Jack Bradford, and Richard Lubinsky and Jeff Susman.
Auctioneer Mike Tontimonia kept the pace moving so the races could begin at 9 p.m. Lynne Blinco planned to bet in the simulated horse race.
“I love being here and socializing and supporting the women’s board and their work,” said Kim Strubel.
